What this question trains

This topic tests whether a candidate understands the lifecycle of startup financing, from the first outside capital through later growth rounds. In interviews, bankers want to see that you can explain how the source of capital changes as a company matures, why different investors enter at different stages, and how the business use of funds shifts from product development and market validation to scaling the organization and preparing for a public exit.

It also checks that you can connect financing stage to investor mandate, since venture firms, angel investors, and growth equity investors each have different risk tolerance, return expectations, and time horizon. That is useful in capital markets discussions because it shows you can think about funding strategy, company maturity, and the logic behind equity issuance in a clear and structured way.
