What this question trains

This problem tests whether you understand how to match valuation numerators and denominators so the multiple compares like with like. In relative valuation, interviewers want to see that you know enterprise value is used with operating, pre debt metrics, while equity value is used with metrics that already reflect interest and other financing effects. It also checks whether you can distinguish between company level and per share measures, since that changes whether you compare against total equity value or share price. These questions matter in interviews because picking the wrong numerator can make a multiple meaningless and lead to flawed valuation comparisons.
